Burgtheater – 250 years 

Austria’s National Theatre, the Burgtheater, celebrates its 250th anniversary in 2026. Founded in 1776 by Emperor Joseph II as the National Theatre, it remains one of the most prestigious stages in the German-speaking world. As part of the anniversary season 2025/26, visitors can join unique scaffold tours and see Gustav Klimt’s famous ceiling paintings above the grand staircases up close. More Info 

Albertina Collection – 250 years 

The Albertina is home to one of the largest and most valuable graphical collections in the world and celebrates 250 years of its collection in 2026. It houses works such as Dürer’s “Hare” and Klimt's studies of women. Its permanent exhibition collection presents masterpieces of the era of Modern art, spanning from Monet to Picasso and Baselitz, amongst many others. More Info 

Hotel Sacher Wien – 150 years 

Austria’s iconic Hotel Sacher in Vienna will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2026. Founded in 1876 by Eduard Sacher opposite the Vienna State Opera, the hotel quickly became a landmark of Viennese luxury and high society. Today, still family-owned and privately managed, it stands for timeless elegance and refined hospitality in the heart of the city. Vienna Festival – 75 years 

The Vienna Festival (Wiener Festwochen) presents a rich program of theater and music productions, installations, and community projects. Each year, the festival transforms the entire city into a stage, with performances taking place at diverse venues across Vienna, celebrating art in all its forms. More Info 

Rainbow Parade – 30 years 

Vienna hosts Central Europe’s largest Pride Parade, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in June 2026. The event draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, showcasing three decades of LGBTQIA+ visibility, rights, and celebration in Austria’s capital. More Info 

MuseumsQuartier (MQ) – 25 years 

Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier, one of the largest cultural complexes in the world with more than 50 institutions, celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2026. Since its transformation from former imperial stables starting in 1998, it has evolved into a lively urban area built on historical foundations, complemented by modern museum buildings. More Info 

Vienna Design Week – 20 years 

The Vienna Design Week, Austria’s largest design festival, celebrates its 20th edition in 2026. Each year it transforms the city into a lively stage for creativity, showcasing cutting-edge design in furniture, products, and urban spaces. More Info 

New Openings & Highlights 

Naschpark – opened in September 2025 / Market Hall - November 21, 2025 

Vienna’s best-known market, Naschmarkt, has been complemented by the new Naschpark in 2025. Vienna’s largest inner-city car parking spot was transformed into the 'Naschpark'. Covering 6,820 square meters, it is now a green space with numerous trees and a new market hall. The new Naschmarkt Marktraum is an indoor market hall with 13 different local suppliers and a restaurant. More info: Here & Here 

Villa Beer – March 2026 

The Villa Beer, a modernist architectural jewel, reopens at the beginning of 2026 after extensive restoration. It will serve as a cultural center showcasing Vienna’s architectural modernism and the history of Jewish architects and patrons. More Info 

Vienna Actionism Museum – March 2026 

In his new role as director, Klaus Albrecht Schröder announced extensive plans for the Vienna Auctionism Museum: renovation and expansion, a redefinition of its curatorial focus, and even a possible renaming. The museum will remain closed until its reopening, currently projected for March 2026. The museum in Vienna’s city center is dedicated to Viennese Actionism, widely regarded as Austria’s most important contribution to 20th-century art. It presents different facets of this uncompromising movement in temporary exhibitions. More Info 

Eurovision Song Contest 2026 – May 10-16, 2026 

Vienna will host the 70th Eurovision Song Contest, returning to the city for the first time since 2015. Under the motto “United by Music”, the Austrian capital once again steps into the international spotlight, welcoming millions of viewers worldwide. The grand finale will take place on May 16, 2026, at Vienna’s Wiener Stadthalle. More Info 

Sisi Museum Expansion – End of 2026

The Sisi Museum in Vienna's Hofburg Palace is expected to be expanded by 700m² or 12 rooms by the end of 2026. Visitors will gain even deeper insights into the life of Austria's iconic Empress Elisabeth on the new tour. The Imperial Silver Collection will also reopen at this time. More Info
