Itinerary - Vienna in 3 days for First-Time Visitors
You can download our itinerary here:
This itinerary is also available in the following languages:
Deutsch Italiano Français Español
Day 1 morning:
- Option A: Imperial Palace and Imperial Treasury
Vienna's Imperial Palace is one of the biggest palace complexes in the world. The oldest parts date back to the 13th century. The most important treasury in the world, in Vienna's Imperial Palace, is home to two imperial crowns as well as the Burgundian treasure and the treasure of the Order of the Golden Fleece.
- Option B: Spanish Riding School
The Spanish Riding School and its world-famous Lipizzaners offers the highest standard of horse-riding art in the Baroque ambience of the Imperial Palace.
- Lunch
For lunch in the city centre we recommend Brasserie Palmenhaus or Motto Café.
Day 1 afternoon:
- Option A: St. Stephen´s Cathedral
St. Stephen's Cathedral is the symbol of Vienna. Construction commenced in the 12th century. Today, it is one of the most important Gothic structures in Austria. Guided tours of the cathedral and the catacombs are offered on a regular basis, including for children.
- Option B: Kunst Haus Wien
Colorful areas, irregular forms, many grown over with lush green plants: this is how painter Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000) encouraged new impulses – and not only to Vienna’s architecture. He also created an exhibition center offering a permanent exhibition of Hundertwasser’s works as well as changing exhibitions of exciting contemporary art.
The concerts in Vienna's churches include spiritual works such as Mozart's Requiem, but there is also a purely secular program which includes Vivaldi's “The Four Seasons” and adapted operas. Church concerts are a delight, especially in summer, when a cool, airy atmosphere prevails in the architectural monuments.
- Dinner
Dinner either at Orient & Occident on Naschmarkt or at Ludwig & Adele im Künstlerhaus in the city centre.
Day 2 morning:
- Option A: Schönbrunn Palace
Visit of the Zoo No. 1 in Europe! For the sixth time in a row, British zoo expert Anthony Sheridan named Schönbrunn Zoo the best zoo in Europe in January 2022.
- Lunch
Lunch at Heuer am Karlsplatz or at Glacis Beisl at the MuseumsQuartier.
Day 2 afternoon:
- Option A: Meeting Place MuseumsQuartier
The MuseumsQuartier (MQ) is one of the largest cultural quarters in the world. Located at the border of the old city in the former imperial stables, it combines institutions of different art fields, restaurants, cafés and shops in an area of over 60,000 square feet in a post-modern ambiance, a combination of baroque buildings and modern architecture.
At MuseumsQuartier is the Leopold Museum located, a unique treasure-trove of Viennese art nouveau, the Vienna Workshop and of the Expressionist period.
Day 3 morning:
An amusement park for many, place of nostalgic dreams for some, oasis of greenery for almost everyone – and the location of the Giant Ferris Wheel, one of Vienna’s most famous symbols. Welcome to the Vienna Prater.
252 meters high, two fast lifts, 35 seconds up: the observation terrace of the Danube Tower at a height of 155 meters offers the best view of Vienna and the Danube.
- Lunch
Enjoy the Austrian cuisine at Schweizerhaus or at Gasthaus Brösl.
Day 3 afternoon:
- Option A: Guided tour at Vienna State Opera
A peek behind the scenes of the Vienna State Opera, the world’s biggest repertory theater, reveals lots of things that are otherwise hidden from evening opera-goers. A tour provides lots of interesting information about the history, architecture and running of the Opera House.
Afterwards make a stop at Gerstner K. u. K. Hofzuckerbäcker - the former Imperial and Royal Court Confectioner offers pleasure on three levels with shop, bar and café-restaurant in the magnificent Palais Todesco near the Vienna State Opera.
- Option B: Visit of the Belvedere
The Belvedere is not only a magnificent Baroque palace. As a museum it also houses one of Austria's most valuable art collections – with key works by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka. The heart of the Belvedere collection is formed by the 24 paintings of Gustav Klimt with his golden images "The Kiss" and "Judith“.
- Dinner
Enjoy the last evening at Fuhrgassl-Huber Winery or at restaurant Wrenkh, which specializes primarily in meatless delights using regional ingredients.
