(Waste) Water Managment

Vienna boasts an exemplary water supply system through the Wiener Hochquellwasserleitung, a 150-year-old infrastructure that continues to deliver fresh alpine water to the city. Waste water management is equally advanced, with nearly 100% of the city’s waste water treated at the central Simmering treatment plant. This facility not only purifies water but also generates enough electricity and heat to fully cover its own energy use.

Ensuring access to high-quality drinking water for all, particularly vulnerable groups, is a priority. To this end, the city plans to expand its network of publicly accessible drinking fountains, adding temporary fountains, misting systems, and splash pads during summer months to address seasonal heatwaves. Vienna also focuses on improving the quality of its natural bathing waters, such as rivers and streams, by restoring riverbanks and enhancing water quality, benefiting both residents and visitors alike.

A robust database on how much water is consumed by guests staying in Vienna is currently not available.

The data that can be found in the dashboard below is currently only available in German. English translations will follow shortly.
