Parking

An accessible stay begins before guests enter the building. Well-located, sufficiently large parking spaces and a step-free route to the entrance help guests arrive independently and with confidence.

Core Requirements

WidthMinimum total width of 3.50 m (2.30 m parking space + 1.20 m side access aisle)
LengthMinimum length of 5.00 m; for parallel parking, minimum length of 6.50 m
Number (ÖNORM)From 6 parking spaces: at least 1 accessible space; 1 additional space for every additional 25 spaces
Number (Vienna Garage Act)For more than 30 spaces: 1 accessible space per 50 spaces (or part thereof)
MarkingClearly marked with a traffic sign and ground marking (wheelchair symbol)

Practical Tips

Use existing spacesCheck and mark existing parking areas: is there already a sufficiently wide space close to the entrance? If so, mark it with a sign and ground marking.
Check the routeCheck the route from the parking area to the accessible entrance: are there curbs without curb cuts, potholes, or loose paving? Temporary markings, signage, or a portable ramp can help address barriers quickly..
SignageInstall clear signs from the parking area to the accessible entrance — especially if it is not the main entrance. This ensures clear orientation.
Provide informationDescribe the parking situation clearly on the website.
Weather protectionCheck whether covered accessible parking is available. A covered space is particularly helpful in rain or snow, as getting in and out of the vehicle can take longer for guests who use a  wheelchair.
