Outdoor Areas & Garden Seating
Plan guest gardens so they are accessible and safe to use for everyone to use. The following requirements should be considered:
Core Requirements
| Clearance height | Mount parasols and awnings at a minimum height of 220 cm |
| Path layout | Keep routes between tables at least 100 cm wide |
| Sidewalk width | Ensure sufficient width for people passing by (150 to 200 cm) |
| Boundary elements | Design boundary elements so they are clearly visible, high in contrast, and positioned at a suitable height (70 to 100 cm) |
| Ramps | Implement ramps with a maximum slope of 6 % |
| Steps | Limit step height to a maximum of 16 cm |
Practical Tips
| Safe heights | Mount parasols and awnings consistently at a minimum height of 220 cm. This helps prevent collisions for all guests. |
| Clear routes | Keep main routes between tables clear and clearly structured (at least 100 cm wide). This allows wheelchair users and people using walking aids to pass through without difficulty. |
| Clearly visible boundary elements | Design boundary elements with strong contrast and good visibility, including for temporary setups. This helps people with visual disabilities identify obstacles. |
| Easier access | Keep a portable ramp available for steps. This enables wheelchair users to enter even where there are small changes in level. |
| Reduce hazards | Keep walking routes free of thorny plants and overhanging branches. This reduces the risk of injury for all guests, especially for people with visual disabilities. |
| Reduce trip hazards | Position parasols securely to avoid trip hazards. This increases safety for everyone, especially for guests with visual disabilities. |
| Safe heights | Mount parasols and awnings consistently at a minimum height of 220 cm. This helps prevent collisions for all guests. |
