2025 Rankings – Vienna on the International Stage

Vienna leads the way in numerous international studies and city rankings, especially when it comes to categories such as quality of life, infrastructure, culture, safety and sustainability. Both visitors and residents alike benefit from Vienna’s upsides.

Outstanding Quality of Life as a Constant Companion

For many years, Vienna has headed the field in a host of international quality of life rankings. In 2025, it came second in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s list of the World’s Most Liveable cities. Also ranking the world's most liveable cities, media company Monocle published its quality of life survey for the 18th time in 2025. For the first time, winners were named under ten different categories – spanning everything from health and safety to housing and nightlife. Vienna was named the winner for the Housing category. Prior to the format change, Monocle had presented an annual quality of life city ranking, in which Vienna consistently claimed top spots in recent years. Once a year, the British publication Condé Nast Traveller calls upon its readers worldwide to vote for their favorite travel destinations. In 2025, Vienna secured three spots at the Readers’ Choice Awards: 1st place in Europe in the Friendliest Cities category, 2nd place worldwide (behind Quito and ahead of Cape Town), and 3rd place in Europe in the Best Cities category (behind Valletta and Oslo).

A central component of the city’s exceptional quality of life is its uncompromising focus on accessibility, which also forms an essential foundation for inclusive and sustainable tourism. Building on this foundation all the time, Vienna is constantly upgrading its offerings – efforts that earned it the European Commission's Access City Award in 2025.

Top Meeting Destination

Vienna is one of the world’s leading meeting destinations, ranking first in the statistics on international congresses held worldwide in 2025, published by the Union of International Associations (UIA) in 2026, with 345 international congresses. Vienna was followed by Brussels (329), Seoul (216), Lisbon (174) and Tokyo (156). The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) ranked Vienna fourth for 2025, with 159 congresses held during the year. The list was topped by Lisbon (188), Paris (174) and Barcelona (166). Next came Vienna, with Singapore (156) completing the top five.
