Itinerary - Celebrate Life. Experience Vienna.
This itinerary is also available in the following languages:
Deutsch Italiano Français Español
Day 1 morning:
This walking tour through the city takes you to former purveyors to the court. These shops, where the splendor of the Austrian monarchy has survived to this day, are still very much alive. A good example of this is the shop of the former purveyor to the court, Wilhelm Jungmann & Neffe, whose beautiful textiles await the royal family today, just as they did centuries ago. Or the world-famous jeweler A. E. Köchert, which is run and managed by the sixth generation of the Köchert family. One of our most exclusive tours: And because it is about artissimi, we are of course also invited to take a look behind the scenes.
- Option B: Through Vienna in a horse-drawn carriage
They are just as much a part of Vienna as St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Giant Ferris Wheel: the fiakers. For many tourists, a ride with the two-horse carriage is one of the highlights. There is almost no cozier way to explore Vienna’s attractions.
- Lunch
For lunch we recommend Plachutta Gasthaus zur Oper or as a vegan option The Lala.
Day 1 afternoon:
- Option A: Visit the MAK - Museum for Applied Arts
Design is one of the main features of MAK. The museum shows furniture, glass, china, silver, and textiles from the Middle Ages to the present day. Precious crafts from the Wiener Werkstätte, bentwood furniture by Thonet and art nouveau highlights such as the gilded design of Gustav Klimt for the frieze of the Stoclet Palais in Brussels.
- Option B: Visit Schönbrunn Zoo
The Schönbrunn Zoo in Vienna is the oldest existing zoo in the world, the only remaining "Baroque menagerie". Today, the Zoo at Schönbrunn is considered one of the best and most modern zoos in the world, where there are even regular arrivals of rare panda babies.
- Evening tour at Schönbrunn Palace
Schönbrunn Palace was built about 300 years ago. The emperors lived here in the summer. Empress Elisabeth, the legendary "Sisi", spent the first years of her marriage here. And in the century before that, the 16 children of Empress Maria Theresia wandered the rooms and corridors of this extensive.
- Dinner
Afterwards you can enjoy dinner in one of the nearby restaurants: Schönbrunner Schloss-Restaurant Joseph II.
Day 2 morning:
- Option A: Mozart Experience: Mozart for All the Senses
It is at precisely that place in Vienna where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart spent the final years of his life and composed both The Magic Flute and his Requiem that the audio-visual and multimedia “Mozart Experience” will be opening in 2022. This presentation is set to offer the public 1,500 square metres’ worth of immersion in Mozart’s world. Visitors will experience Mozart’s music, life, and activities staged acoustically, spatially, and employing various media.
Combine your visit with a shopping tour at the Steffl Department Store.
- Option B: Visit the Heidi Horten Collection
This new addition to the Vienna museumscape has been very eagerly awaited, and rightly so. Heidi Horten Collection, an all-new museum, taking shape in the heart of Vienna, will provide a fitting home for the Heidi Horten Collection, one of Europe’s leading private collections. For the past 30 years, patron of the arts Heidi Goëss-Horten, one of just a handful of female museum founders worldwide, has been bringing together an impressive cross-section of art history from early modernism to the present day.
- Option C: Visit the Liechtenstein Garden Palace
The Liechtenstein Garden Palace opens its doors to visitors in March 2022 with a special exhibition and free admission. The art collection of the princely house of Liechtenstein includes one of the biggest Rubens collections, key works by van Dyck, Lucas Cranach, and Raffael, as well as works by Rembrandt, van Ruysdael, and Hamilton.
- Lunch at Brunnenmarkt
A colourful, newly fashionable district is springing up around Brunnenmarkt, a little further from the city centre, in Ottakring (16th district). The market exudes South European flair. Numerous artists have set up shop in the surrounding area, making Brunnenmarkt and nearby Yppenmarkt one of the most electric neighbourhoods in the city today. Some of Vienna's most exciting restaurants have opened around Yppenplatz: Restaurant Mani, Restaurant Wetter or Restaurant Dolce Lago.
Day 2 afternoon:
- Stroll around Yppenplatz and Brunnenmarkt
The area around Yppenplatz square is one of Vienna’s most vibrant. Its lifeline is the Brunnenmarkt which with more than 170 market stalls between Thaliastrasse and Ottakringer Strasse is Vienna’s largest street market. You barely notice the transition to Yppenplatz with its marketplace of permanent pavilions.
- Dinner
Have an early dinner in the historic city centre: Cafe Mozart, Meissl & Schadn or 1870 - Restaurant Terrace Lounge.
- Enjoy a concert at the Musikverein or at the Vienna State Opera
The Musikverein is Vienna's most famous center for classical music. Going to a concert here is about getting to know Vienna as a city of music in a setting of the very finest quality. And musical greats such as the Vienna Philharmonic.
The Vienna State Opera is one of the leading establishments for opera in the world. Internationally renowned performers and directors enjoy presenting their art here.
Day 3 morning:
- Option A: Visit the Lower Belvedere
While the Upper Belvedere was all about representation, the Lower Belvedere acted as the residential palace of Prince Eugene. The lavish splendor of the owner is reflected in the Groteskensaal (Hall of the Grotesque), the Marble Gallery and the Golden Room. Special exhibitions are held in the Lower Belvedere and the Orangery. Nowadays, medieval art can be marveled at in the sables where the prince's horses once stood.
- Option B: Visit the Upper Belvedere - world's biggest Klimt collection
The heart of the Belvedere collection is formed by the 24 paintings of Gustav Klimt with his golden images "The Kiss" and "Judith". Klimt's "The Kiss" in particular is world-famous. The 180 x 180 cm painting was created in 1908/09 and shows Klimt and his friend Emilie Flöge as a couple in love. "The Kiss" is probably Austria's most famous work of art. Klimt's portraits of women also impress and be marveled at in the Upper Belvedere.
Insiders tip: Combine your visit with a Vienna Gold Workshop
Gold is more than a metal. Gold is history, art, religion—and gold is love. Gold’s enigmatic qualities and its unique value have always captured people’s imaginations. Starting with Gustav Klimt’s Kiss we peer over the artist’s shoulder and find out how the masterpieces from his Golden Period were created. This is followed by working with this iconic metal in the studio and embellishing a unique souvenir with delicate gold leaf.
- Lunch
Enjoy the typical Austrian cuisine at Restaurant Stöckl im Park or Salmbräu.
Day 3 afternoon:
- Option A: Discover modern art at Albertina modern
Vienna has had a new museum for modern and contemporary art since 2020. And what a thing: the Albertina modern, as a branch of the world-famous Albertina, occupies around 2,500 m² in the completely renovated artists' house.
- Option B: Visit the Kunsthistorisches Museum
With its collection of important works and the world's largest Bruegel collection, the KHM is one of the most significant art collections in the world. The Kunstkammer (Chamber of Art and Wonders) located there is one of the most valuable in the world.
Vist the exhibition Artistic Rivalry (Cellini, Rubens, Goya) (20th September – 8th of January 2023)
In the autumn of 2022, the KHM will be hosting an important exhibition that looks at duels and duets throughout art history. The often intense rivalry between painters and sculptors has a long history, and some of the best-known works from the Renaissance and the Baroque were created in the context of an artistic competition.
