REGIONAL TOURISM SATELLITE-ACCOUNT (RTSA)

Direct and indirect VALUE CREATION from tourism in Vienna

Vienna is committed to cultural tourism and the conference business, and there- fore to the most responsible and socially sustainable segments of the industry, which attract particularly high-spending guests. A typical conference guest will spend roughly twice as much in a day as an average visitor to Vienna. A long-term comparison revealed that one in every eight overnight stays in Vienna were associated with a conference or a company event. These visitors are hugely important in terms of job creation due to the associated high value creation (approx. € 1 billion a year) and they also enhance city as a location for business and research.

Event organizers, associations and companies that hold meetings here can leave a visibly positive legacy on the city. Any meeting certified as a Green Meeting by means of the Austrian Eco-Label enables the organizers to make a contribution to sustainable conferences and company events. Vienna has already been certifying Green Meetings since 2011, with each certification carried out free of charge by the Vienna Convention Bureau.
