Join the Live Podcast "70 Years of Eurovision, 70 Years of Austrian Sound" at Wien Museum
From the soulful sounds of 1950s Schlager to today's self-assured contemporary artists, this talk traces 70 years of Austria's evolving musical identity – from Udo Jürgens and Falco to Conchita Wurst and beyond. With live music and first-hand insights, leading figures from the Austrian music scene explore how Austropop grew from a derided genre into a defining national sound, and how today's artists like Cosmo blend local identity with international appeal. The discussion also examines how dialect, classical heritage, and a new generation of creators continue to shape – and redefine – what Austrian pop music means today.
Speaker:
- Rudi Dolezal Austropop expert / Film director and internationally experienced producer / Producer of Falco’s legendary video for “Rock Me Amadeus” and author of the new Falco book “Die ganze Wahrheit”
- Nazanin Aghakhani Internationally renowned conductor / Composer, pianist and producer / The first woman from Vienna in 100 years to conduct the Vienna Symphony Orchestra
- Florian Ritt Lead singer of the band folkshilfe / Pioneer of “accordion synth-pop”/ Winner of the Amadeus Austrian Music Award (Album of the Year 2026, *Bunt*) / Solo artist (Frinc) / Co-founder of the music agency töchtersöhne, which represents artists such as the Austrian Eurovision Song Contest entrant Cosmo
- Ina Regen Austrian singer-songwriter and dialect pop artist / Winner of the Amadeus Austrian Music Award / Founder of her own label, ‘Nannerl’, named in honour of Maria Anna (‘Nannerl’) Mozart / her 2017 duet with Conchita Wurst, ‘Heast as net’, marked her breakthrough
