Vienna Press Release – September 2024 Vienna’s new hotels: from the Opera to Schönbrunn
Hotel zur Wiener Staatsoper: from Bernstein to Karajan
If you are looking for a charming gem in the heart of Vienna, Krugerstraße, a side street of the well-known shopping street Kärntner Straße, is the ideal choice. The Hotel zur Wiener Staatsoper has been welcoming guests for more than 100 years, including big names such as Leonard Bernstein, Herbert von Karajan and Gustav Mahler. The magnificent Wilhelminian-style building, which has just twelve rooms and suites, has recently undergone a complete renovation. Renowned British interior designer Nina Campbell was entrusted with the task of creating an interior that is as contemporary as it is timeless.
Guests can expect an exclusive boutique hotel with one room and one suite on each floor. The highlight is a two-storey suite for up to four people with views over the rooftops of Vienna’s city center and St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Everything here is musical through and through: the suites are named after famous figures in music history who had a connection to the hotel. One of the suites is even named after Johann Strauss, whose 200th birthday will be celebrated in 2025. The perfect destination for people who love classic Viennese flair paired with elegance and luxurious furnishings.

Hotel Astoria: an Art Deco jewel in the heart of Vienna
The Hotel Astoria, a Viennese hotel classic that has been welcoming guests since 1912, has undergone a year-long extensive renovation with great attention to detail. It is an establishment that has many stories to tell: the luxurious hotel was once frequented by numerous aristocrats, diplomats, opera and film stars. Orson Welles and the entire film crew of “The Third Man” were among the hotel’s guests.
The building, which is in a prime inner-city location, has been restored to its former glory. Special attention was paid to preserving the historic Art Deco fabric during the renovation. A total of around €15 million was invested in the refurbishment of the 125-room hotel, which also offers a 70m² Beletage suite with a balcony. A romantic four-poster bed, separate living room and bedroom, historic fireplaces, wall mirrors and opulent chandeliers await guests here.
The hotel lobby is particularly eye-catching, offering a sumptuous Art Deco ambience. The charming Astoria Bar is also located in the lobby. Meetings, conventions and press conferences can also be held in the refurbished hotel. Four fully air-conditioned seminar rooms are available for this purpose.

Imperial Riding School: soak up Viennese history
Marriott International has been adding a special touch to the upscale hotel industry since opening the Imperial Riding School in Vienna’s 3rd district in May 2024. The hotel is part of Marriott International’s Autograph Collection, which unites exceptional hotels that are steeped in history and boast outstanding architecture. It is the first establishment in Austria to be part of the Autograph Collection.
The building was constructed in the mid-19th century as a military riding school and was turned into one of the largest cinemas in Vienna in the early 20th century. The architecture of the hotel, which offers 342 rooms, is correspondingly spacious and stately: historic vaults supported by heavy columns dominate the appearance of the lobby. This is where Vienna’s architectural history meets modern design, resulting in a unique ambience. The renowned British interior design firm Goddard Littlefair, which specializes in luxury hotels, was responsible for the remarkable makeover.
The Imperial Riding School is also an attractive venue for events, meetings and conferences. Up to 375 people can be accommodated in the meeting rooms. Private cocktail parties can also be organized here. Many creature comforts are provided. The Imperial Riding School offers an indoor pool as well as a restaurant with bar and a beautiful garden.

The Hoxton Vienna: mid-century dream
The British Hoxton Group opened its first hotel in Vienna, The Hoxton Vienna, in spring 2024. The group, which focuses on major North American and European cities when choosing its locations, is known for its open-house concept: the Hoxton Hotels see themselves as a reflection of the districts in which they are situated, inspired by the diversity and uniqueness of the neighborhoods that surround them. Local residents will be specifically encouraged to use the publicly accessible areas.
The Hoxton Group has chosen a jewel of mid-century architecture for its Vienna location, which offers almost 200 rooms. The eight-story building with its listed façade dates back to the 1950s. The lobby and staircase also delight fans of mid-century design. The establishment is located just a few steps away from Vienna’s Stadtpark. The Hoxton Vienna is a vibrant venue with a basement bar and is also home to Cayo Coco, a restaurant and bar on the top floor. There is a wonderful vista over the historic city center from here as well as a pool with a spectacular view.
The Hoxton Vienna is also an ideal venue for meetings, seminars and conferences. Several meeting rooms and a dedicated event space invite guests to hold events of all kinds in a unique environment.

Hotel Schani UNO City: Viennese charm and smart technology
The Hotel Schani UNO City opened in June 2024 right opposite the Vienna International Center, one of the four UN headquarters worldwide. The Austria Center Vienna, one of the most important venues in Vienna for large conferences and meetings, is also located in the immediate vicinity. This is now the lifestyle hotel chain’s fourth location in Vienna. The Schani Hotels combine modern design with Viennese charm. The hotel with 202 rooms and suites has several conference rooms and a meeting room with co-working facilities. However, the Hotel Schani UNO City is an out-and-out innovation, especially when it comes to building technology.
This is because the hotel has an integrated building automation system. This means that every room has infrared movement detectors. These devices reduce energy consumption to a bare minimum. Furthermore, lighting, heating and air conditioning consumption is recorded in a single system. This technology makes it possible to fully exploit the potential for CO2 savings. Fairly manufactured raw materials, recycled materials and plenty of greenery in the public areas round off the sustainable design.
