Vienna leads the way in numerous international studies and city rankings, especially when it comes to categories such as quality of life, infrastructure, culture, safety and sustainability. Renowned international publications including Time magazine and the Financial Times, as well as China’s largest travel portal Trip.com named Vienna among their top destinations in 2023. Both visitors and residents alike benefit from Vienna’s upsides.

Outstanding Quality of Life a Constant Companion

For many years, Vienna has headed the field in a host of international quality of life rankings. Mercer’s 2023 global ranking awarded the top spot to the Austrian capital for the eleventh year in succession. And, for the first time, the Austrian capital topped the Quality of Life Survey conducted by Monocle, in which the UK news and lifestyle magazine listed the 20 best cities worldwide. Vienna also came first for the fourth time in the Economist Intelligence Unit's Global Liveability Index, which ranks the world’s ten most livable cities.

Top Meeting Destination

Vienna is one of the world’s leading meeting destinations, ranking fourth in the statistics on international congresses held worldwide in 2023, published by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) in 2024, with 141 congresses. The list was topped by Paris (156), Singapore (152) and Lisbon (151). The Union of International Associations (UIA), which uses different statistical criteria, ranked Vienna second for 2022 with 252 international congresses, which represented an improvement of two places over 2021, when it took fourth spot. The list was topped by Brussels (570). Vienna was followed by Singapore (203), Tokyo (201) and Lisbon (167). The UIA data for 2023 was not available at the publication deadline.
