The Austrian capital provides the perfect backdrop for film shoots, whatever the era. Cinema, TV and video on demand (VoD) platforms have barely scratched the surface when it comes to exploiting the city’s potential as a location for movies, documentaries and TV series To help address this, the Vienna Film Incentive provides yet another reason to capture the different sides that the city has to offer on camera. International shoots play an important role both for Vienna’s visitor economy and the capital’s film industry, and deserve to be supported as key drivers of the city’s continued internationalization and as an important source of induced economic impact.
The incentive program is aimed at international productions that are shot in the city and commission Vienna-based firms as film production service providers.
What kinds of productions are eligible?
The Vienna Film Incentive promotes international fiction and non-fiction productions (e.g. feature films, fiction series and documentaries) for cinema, television and VoD platforms with a minimum running time of 45 minutes that are filmed in Vienna and intended for international distribution. Productions must carry out at least two full days of actual filming in Vienna.
Funding is available for expenses related directly to filming in Vienna.
Recordings of theater, opera or concert productions; industry, advertising or promotional films; magazine and reportage features; and associated broadcast elements, as well as entertainment shows and similar programs are not eligible for funding under the initiative.
Full details of eligibility criteria can be found in the Funding Guidelines.
