There are numerous events in 2023 – from the Vienna Ice World in front of the City Hall to the Summer Night Concert at Schönbrunn Palace, as well as blockbuster exhibitions and idyllic Christmas markets.

The Belvedere - 300 Years a Place of Art

Celebrations to mark the 300th anniversary of the construction of the Upper Belvedere will start in December 2022. Featuring a packed program of events and exhibitions, the special milestone will play out under the specially chosen theme of Golden Spring.

Vienna Ice World

Dreaming of a winter fairytale? Against the backdrop of Vienna CityHall, skaters can glide around to their heart’s content on a unique icy landscape that includes four ice rinks as well as a trail that criss-crosses the enchantingly decorated Rathauspark. The Print: Dürer to Picasso at the Albertina

The 20th anniversary of the ALBERTINA Museum’s reopening is to be marked by a grandiose exhibition featuring printed graphics from the past six centuries.

Vienna Opera Ball

The 65th Vienna Opera Ball will fill the Vienna State Opera´s dancefloor, where revelers dance to the beat of the waltz.

Nude Masters. Georg Baselitz at KHM

The Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien will be presenting Georg Baselitz in a dialogue with old masters. The exhibition features around 80 works from Baselitz and 40 from the Picture Gallery of the Kunsthistorisches Museum – focusing solely on the nude.

Easter Markets

Traditional Easter decorations and beautifully painted eggs, culinary treats and a full music program set the tone at Vienna’s Easter markets.

40th Vienna City Marathon

A red-letter day for thousands of runners from all over the world. The course takes in some of Vienna’s best-loved sights, including the Giant Ferris Wheel, Schönbrunn Palace and the Hofburg.

Women at Work at the Vienna Museum of Technology

The special exhibition "Women at Work – 150 Years of the Women's Pavilion of the Vienna World's Fair" deals with a special aspect of the Vienna World's Fair: The "Women's Pavilion" focused on female worlds of work for the first time at a World's Fair.

Vienna Festival

In May and June, the Vienna Festival sets the stage for new opera, theater, performance, dance and music productions and premieres.

Vienna Pride and Rainbow Parade

In 2023, the legendary Rainbow Parade will take to the capital’s showpiece Ringstrasse boulevard for the 27th time. The parade marks the culmination of Vienna Pride, an event which sees the rainbow flag flying high all over the city.

Summer Night´s Concert at Schönbrunn Palace

Against the stunning Baroque backdrop of Schönbrunn Palace, the Vienna Philharmonic serves up classical music at its finest – outdoors and free of charge.

Orientalism and the 1873 World’s Fair at MAK

The exhibition at the Museum of Applied Arts focuses on the trend towards the Orientalism of the 19th century, which inspired the World's Fair.

Danube Island Festival

This year Europe’s largest free open-air festival is celebrating a special anniversary: the signal’s set for a truly spectacular party at the 40th Danube Island Festival this year. Admission is free!

33rd Film Festival on Rathausplatz

In July and August, the square outside City Hall is transformed into a bustling open-air hotspot. The Film Festival serves up opera, classical, pop and rock music film highlights. Fine food also awaits at the various open-air concession stands. Free admission!

Reopening Wien Museum

The fully remodeled Wien Museum on Karlsplatz will reopen to the public after a complete refurb. The museum’s archives contain many exhibits related to the World’s Fair 1873.

Christmas markets 2023

Some of the city’s most attractive squares are transformed into enchanting Christmas markets between mid-November and Christmas. The aromas of freshly baked cookies, steaming punch and roasted almond shang in the air. Festive lights twinkle above the old town and shopping streets, spreading Christmas cheer throughout the city.

Vienna New Year’s Eve Trail

On December 31, Vienna city center is transformed into a giant party scene.

From 2pm until 2am the New Year’s Eve trail in the old town, on Rathausplatz and at the Prater keeps the entertainment coming. Numerous stopping-off points offer culinary specialties where the sounds of waltz, rock, pop and live DJs add up to an unforgettable experience.
