Viennese population’s attitude to tourism
Today, when more than a billion people travel abroad every year, appreciation of tourism among the local population is a quality factor. Since Vienna in its 2020 tourism strategy plans to increase the number of overnights to 18 million, it is essential to measure the attitude to tourism of its population. “Only a city that is good to its residents is also good to its guests,” tourism director Norbert Kettner summarizes the reason for the representative survey on the attitude to tourism of the Viennese population.
Surveys in months with fewer and larger numbers of tourists (January and February, July and August) were first conducted in 2016 to assess the attitude of more than 2,000 residents of Vienna to tourism topics. The study shows: 90% say that city, residents and economy benefit from tourism.
