Vienna Media News 05/2019 New arrivals on Vienna’s hotel scene

In mid-April 2019 the 303-room Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere opened just a short distance from the Belvedere Palace and Hauptbahnhof main station. The Hyatt Group’s lifestyle hotel was designed by celebrated Italian architect Renzo Piano. Located 60 meters above street level on the sixteenth floor, the Aurora sky bar opens up previously unseen views of the city. The Max Brown 7th district hotel set up shop right in the heart of the city’s creative district at the start of April 2019. It took an existing accommodation in the seventh district and converted it into a chic lifestyle hotel with 140 rooms and suites, multifunctional communal spaces and a restaurant with a Mediterranean menu. The HoHo Hotel is due to open in mid-2019 in the HoHo Wien building in Seestadt Aspern in north eastern Vienna. Located in Vienna’s green periphery, HoHoWien is the world’s only 24-story timber high rise. Towering 84 meters above ground, once fully let it will contain restaurants, offices, commercial businesses, apartments and a hotel. It takes just 25 minutes to reach Seestadt from the centre of town on the U2 subway line.

The Mooons (170 rooms) boutique hotel on Wiedner Gürtel hopes to carve out a niche for itself from summer 2019 with a combination of smart, affordable luxury. Featuring a restaurant, garden and roof terraces, and a fully-equipped gym, the new hotel is located opposite Vienna’s Hauptbahnhof main station. The Lenikus group is planning two hotels in Vienna’s historic city centre. Work to construct a five-star grand hotel with 75 rooms and suites on five floors of a heritage-listed Baroque building at Bauernmarkt 1 is scheduled for completion at the end of 2019. Another hotel at Bauernmarkt 21 – with around 100 rooms as well as event spaces – is shaping up for completion by the end of 2021. Meanwhile in the sixth district, the Deutsche Hospitality Group will convert a building into the Jaz in the City hotel, ready to welcome its first paying guests at the end of 2020.

Also in the sixth, Hotel Kummer on Vienna’s Mariahilfer Strasse is being remodelled as a boutique lifestyle hotel. It will reopen as Hotel Motto with 90 rooms, an organic bakery and retail spaces in 2020. The 111-room luxury Almanac Vienna is set to open in 2020, in the building on Parkring that was previously home to the Radisson Blu Palais Hotel. Next to Stadtpark, Hilton Vienna’s modernization and expansion project will run all the way through to the 2020 completion date with business continuing as usual at the hotel. Hotel projects due for completion in 2021 include the 179-room Radisson Red Vienna on the Danube Canal in the second district, as well as Rosewood Vienna with 99 rooms and suites, which will occupy a historic building on Petersplatz in the heart of the capital.
