Vienna Media News 05/2019 Bar stool summer

Vienna’s thriving bar scene has struck upon the perfect platform in the shape of Liquid Market Vienna. At this cocktail festival, around 70 bars from Vienna and abroad will present their best alcoholic and non-alcoholic creations from July 11-13, 2019. The wonderful Club Volksgarten in the park of the same name on the Ringstrasse will host the event – an absolute must for cocktail fans and the late night crowd.

Elsewhere, a new summertime rooftop bar has bagged itself a seriously desirable location: Freiluft – Die Stadtterrasse will take up residence on the top floor of the Hochhaus Herrengasse in June 2019. Built according to plans drawn up by architects Siegfried Theiss and Hans Jaksch between 1931 and 1932, the 52m-high building was Vienna’s first ever high-rise. Located in the center of the old town, just a short walk from Michaelerplatz, it offers fantastic panoramic views of the Austrian capital. Some of the city’s best barkeepers can also be found at this pop-up bar, which is open daily from 4pm except Sundays.

From spring to fall Kleinod Stadtgarten serves cool drinks and light French and Mediterranean cuisine including quiches, salads and tartes flambées. Complete with romantic garden and terrace, the restaurant is located in the Vienna’s oldest park, the beautiful Stadtpark on the Ringstrasse boulevard.

In summer, weather permitting, there is a laid-back, open air bar on Heldenplatz. Open daily except Wednesdays, HeldenBar in front of the Weltmuseum will offer great cocktails and drinks from May 8-September 15, 2019, from 11am.

Completed at the end of April 2019, the Aurora sky bar on the sixteenth floor of the Hyatt Group’s Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere is set to become a firm favorite. In addition to creative cocktails, Scandinavian-style snacks and an open fire, the new location serves up some pretty impressive views of Vienna. The lifestyle hotel, close to the Belvedere and Hauptbahnhof main station, was designed by renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano.

Lots of the city’s other hotels are crowned by attractive rooftop terraces that promise fine food and drinks alongside great views of the capital. Ringstrasse options include the Atmosphere Rooftop Bar at The Ritz Carlton Vienna (www.ritzcarlton.com/vienna) and the old town has the Lamée Rooftop at the hotel of the same name (www.lameerooftop.com). The seventh district is no slouch, thanks to the rooftop bar of the 25 hours Hotel at MuseumsQuartier (www.25hours-hotels.com) and the Rooftop Garden at Hotel Ruby Marie (www.ruby-hotels.com).
