Vienna Media News 03/2019 My Vienna: insider tips from Tamara Mascara

Tamara Mascara is a drag queen, DJ and sells her Luxury Eyelash Collection via her online store.

My favorite place:

I have a lot of favorite places in Vienna. I grew up here and know the city and its peculiarities very well. The Prater park is one of my favorite places. There is an amazing range of recreational areas and green spaces, and of course the amusement park with its rides and restaurants. The Prater still exudes the charm of a turn-of-the-century county fair.

My culture tip:

Vienna is full of cultural highlights all year round. I love the two big museums on the Ring; the Museum of Natural History with its collection of thousands of stuffed animals has a special place in my heart. For me, the Hermes Villa, which is located slightly outside the city center, is one of the prettiest places in Austria. It seems like it has had a spell cast over it, particularly in fall and winter.

My community tip:

Austria’s largest gay party, The Circus: I open this party three times a year with an opulent stage show, there are different floors, lots of performers and international DJs.

My food tip:

I really like Austrian cuisine. The Schweizerhaus, one of my favorite restaurants, is also located in the Prater. Labstelle in the first district is perfect for a slightly more refined evening.

My shopping tip:

The best shops can be found clustered around Mariahilfer Strasse. I’d recommend setting aside a whole day to stroll around the backstreets and stores.
