Vienna Media News 03/2019 EuroPride 2019 in Vienna

Information events, panel discussions and cultural highlights, as well as parties celebrating equal rights and tolerance while sending out a strong signal against homophobia and marginalization will play out in Vienna this June at EuroPride 2019. Many program highlights have already been confirmed, including a EuroPride Run, a Pride Beach, a Pride Day at the Zoo, Pride tours of Viennese Museums, film evenings and a EuroPride Pool Day at the Schönbrunnerbad swimming pool.

The Pride Village on Rathausplatz will be at the center of proceedings for the EuroPride community. A special Pride Park refuge planned for Sigmund-Freud-Park in front of the Votive Church is intended to offer a lower-octane alternative for anyone looking to take a break from the non-stop carnival atmosphere on Rathausplatz, particularly during the last three days of the Europride festival. Overall, more than a million visitors are expected to flock to Vienna for EuroPride 2019.

The undisputed highlight of the festivities comes in the shape of the loud and proud Rainbow Parade on Vienna’s genteel Ringstrasse boulevard on June 15, 2019. Featuring inspiring speeches and a host of top international acts, the closing rally lights the touchpaper for a serious night of partying.

2019 is a special year for the LGBT community: 50 years ago – on 28 June 1969 – a raid on the Stonewall Inn in New York triggered a series of protests sending out shockwaves that continue to make themselves felt to this day. They sparked the ongoing fight for equal rights for the LGBT community, which is marked all over the world in June each year with numerous pride events.
