Vienna Media News 05/2018 Vienna voted the world’s most livable city for the ninth time

Each year international consultants Mercer conduct a quality of life survey in 231 major cities worldwide. In 2018 Vienna claimed top marks once again, with the Austrian capital taking the title of the world’s most livable city for the ninth year in a row. The study looked at a range of factors including the political, social and economic environment, medical services, education, and infrastructure facilities including public transportation, power and water utilities. Leisure facilities such as restaurants, theaters, cinemas and sports facilities, the availability of consumer goods ranging from food to automobiles, and environmental factors including green spaces and air quality are also taken into consideration.

98% of the final scores used to decide Mercer’s rankings are based on hard data supplied by independent national or local institutions and authorities, such as those on water and energy supply, public transportation, communications and crime. The remaining two percent is based on the outcome of surveys of expats who come to the city to work for a limited period of time.
