Vienna Media News 04/2017 Gourmet news from Vienna

A new chef de cuisine has just taken up the reins at Das Spittelberg on the romantic Spittelberggasse. Harald Brunner concentrates on creative Viennese cuisine infused with a dash of tradition. The centerpiece of the cool restaurant is a large rotisserie which is big enough to grill entire cuts. His predecessor Mario Bernatovic has since moved on to run his own place Kussmaul in Bäckerstrasse in the first district. Ludwig van – close to Naschmarkt – is another eatery with a new kitchen star, who has come up with two concepts to keep things interesting. At lunch time there are wholesome set menu options with and without meat or fish, while in the evening Ludwig van is transformed into a restaurant serving modern interpretations of Austrian cuisine steeped in flavours from all around the world.

Fans of Japanese noodle soups should make the trip out to Vorgartenmarkt, a market nestled between the Prater park and the Danube in the second district. The ramen noodles at the Mochi Ramen Bar are freshly made every day and the soup served with them also comes in a special vegetarian option. Francophiles will be right at home at La Mercerie in the ninth district. Located on a corner plot in the popular Servitenviertel district it serves smaller dishes with a distinctly French touch in a cozy village interior.

Now with 20 branches in Austria, Wein & Co has just expanded its flagship winery and store opposite St. Stephen's Cathedral. The all new 800m² wine lover’s paradise is spread across three floors and includes a bar with restaurant, a tasting corner and chef’s table, a takeaway area and a cellar stocked with rare vintages.

UK star chef Jamie Oliver is set to touch down at Vienna International Airport any minute now with three more additions to his global portfolio. Terminal 3 will contain a Jamie’s Deli (from May 2017), a Jamie’s Italian restaurant (from Dec. 2017) and a bar (from mid-2018).
