The rhythm of Vienna from 360°

The perspectives of the six-minute video "In the rhythm of Vienna" are most unusual because an all-round view is possible at any point during the clip by using the mouse or keyboard - regardless of whether you're "riding along" on the Giant Ferris Wheel in the Prater or in a horse-drawn carriage through the Imperial Palace. It's also helpful if you don't suffer from vertigo for the moments captured by the 360° camera on the Giant Ferris Wheel. The colorful life in the courtyard of the MuseumsQuartier passes by in time lapse as does life on the urban beach at the Danube Canal. The wine tavern in the vineyards together with the Wienerlied Ensemble, which reinterprets the waltz "Wiener Blut" by Johann Strauss Jr., can also be experienced. Filming took place at a total of 18 locations that allow surprising insights into and views of Vienna's attractions as well as the city's nightlife and concert scene. The Summer Night Concert by the Vienna Philharmonic in Schönbrunn, which was comprehensively captured in a second 360° video, forms the impressive conclusion to the clip.

Longing for Vienna through virtual reality

"With this 360° video, we not only provide information about the city's virtues but actually make it possible to experience them through virtual reality. We go for the emotional level and aim at awakening a sense of longing in the minds of our potential guests. The virtual Vienna experience is intended to create the desire to also visit the city in real life," as Norbert Kettner, the direct of the Vienna Tourist Board, explains the use of virtual reality in destination marketing. Martin Traxl, head of TV culture at ORF: "Using this technology turns the cultural city of Vienna into a personal event. The immersive experience by means of 360° video technology creates unique visual and acoustic perspectives. Above all the use of parts of the Summer Night Concert with the Vienna Philharmonic, one of the highlights of our summer of culture in 2016, makes unforgettable moments accessible to the viewers."

The video is available to watch now on the digital channels of the Vienna Tourist Board and on the ORF network and will be used to set the mood for the Vienna Tourist Board's annual slogan for 2017, especially in Germany, Austria, the UK, Spain, France, Italy, Brazil and the Arab region. The clip was produced exclusively for the Vienna Tourist Board by DEEP Inc. in cooperation with ORF. The Canadian production company Deep Inc. is one of the world's leading companies in the area of 360° and virtual reality technology.

The mouse or keyboard controls the all-round view on the computer. On a smartphone, the video has to be loaded via the YouTube app for optimal presentation – because the integrated sensors then gage the position of the device and the viewing direction is determined by rotating and turning it. A further enhancement of the 360° experience is offered by so-called Cardboard or Virtual Reality glasses.
