This year the legendary free concert (May 26, 2016) by the Vienna Philharmonic in the grounds of Schönbrunn Palace will be conducted by Semyon Bychkov. Starting at 8.15pm the programme includes works by Georges Bizet (L'Arlésienne, Suite no. 2), Maurice Ravel (Daphnis et Chloé, Suite no. 2), Francis Poulenc (Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra in D minor, FP 61) and Maurice Ravel (Boléro, ballet for orchestra).
While the concert does not start until 8.15pm, visitors start flocking to the concert arena between Schönbrunn Palace and the Neptune fountain hours in advance. Guests are strongly advised to take public transportation to the concert. The U4 subway line stops at Schönbrunn Palace and there is no parking at the venue. Pushchairs, pets, blankets, chairs, benches and other forms of seating are not allowed to be taken onto the site. On the day of the concert the Meidlinger Tor (east side of the Palace) and Hietzinger Tor (west) gates and the main entrance to the Palace grounds will remain open until 1am. All other entrances will close at 9pm.
In the event of bad weather the event will be rescheduled for May 27, 2016. A weather hotline (tel. +43 (0)800 0800 99) will be up and running on the day of the event to let people know whether the Summer Night Concert is taking place.
