Viennese Ball Season
More than 450 balls are held in the city each year, from traditional formal dances to elegant summer galas. The new season will get underway in November 2015 with the Vienna Red Cross Ball, followed by the Hofburg Silvesterball on New Year’s Eve. Things really start to pick up during carnival season when one ball follows hot on the heels of another.

Vienna 2016: Imperial & Contemporary
For 68 years Emperor Franz Joseph 1 (1830-1916) was the figurehead of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. The epitome of imperial might, he was the penultimate ruler of a declining dynasty. Franz Joseph died in old age in 1916 in Schönbrunn Palace, and in 2016 Vienna will mark the 100th anniversary of his death. Over the past century Vienna has experienced massive changes, going from an opulent hub of empire to a centre for contemporary art. Austrian and international artists have always prized Vienna as a fertile breeding ground for their work.

60th Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna – join in the fun
The official hotspot for the 60th Eurovision Song Contest – apart from the Stadthalle – is located right on Rathausplatz in the heart of Vienna. Open to visitors from May 18, 2015, the Eurovision Village promises to be a mecca for fans, tourists and music lovers from all over the world. Public viewing locations and events throughout the city will offer plenty of opportunities to celebrate and join in the fun. The world’s largest televised music competition will be staged as a green event for the first time this year.

The Wiener Stadthalle is gearing up to host the final on May 23, 2015 and the two semi-finals in the days leading up to it. The official ESC hot spot Eurovision Village on Rathausplatz will be up and running on May 17, 2015.
