DocLX: New Marketing Partner for Vienna Card

DocLX Travel Events GmbH has been handling marketing of the Vienna Tourist Board’s Vienna-Card since December. Following an EU-wide service concession tender, the company was awarded the contract because, as the Board’s Managing Director Norbert Kettner explains, “Alexander Knechtsberger and his team presented an impressive marketing concept, which clearly showed their experience in the tourism industry and considerable expertise in the online area. DocLX’s extensive international network is an additional bonus, one we are sure to benefit from.” Nothing will change for the Vienna Card points of sale, which include the city’s hotels, Wiener Linien (public transport operator), Austrian Airlines, and some 500 domestic and foreign travel agents and tour operators. All administrative and organizational structures will remain unchanged. The same applies to Vienna Card affiliates – people who advertise it on their websites or blogs and receive commission for their sales (info available at ).

Appreciated by Visitors, Good for the City’s Environment

It is now exactly 20 years since the Vienna Tourist Board launched the Vienna Card, Austria’s first visitor card. Every year since then it has been the most popular in the country and, in 2012, it topped the ranks in a test comparing 16 European city cards. In 2014, 324,000 cards were sold and this year, at 290,000, sales up to October already exceed the comparable figure for the previous year by 26 percent. Vienna Card holders enjoy free travel on public transport within the city boundaries and over 210 discounts for all the major museums, various sights, attractions, concerts, theaters, shops, restaurants, wine taverns and much more. There are two card options available: the 72-hour ticket with discounts valid for four days (€21.90) and the 48-hour ticket with discounts for three days (€18.90). In addition to its function as a very popular service for visitors – as the sales figures show – the Vienna Card also makes an important contribution to protecting the environment and reducing traffic congestion by providing a city experience without the need for a car.
