Vienna Media News 06/2015 Music Film Festival on Rathausplatz

Music films covering everything from opera to pop will play out on the Ringstrasse boulevard at the popular Music Film Festival from July 4 to September 6, 2015 . This year’s program has something for everyone: Opera fans can look forward to Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazón in Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohème and Gaetano Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore, as well as Thomas Hampson performing in Giuseppe Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra. The line-up also includes a brace of operettas by Emmerich Kálmán (The Gypsy Princess and Countess Mariza) and a broadcast of the 2015 New Year’s Concert by the Vienna Philharmonic, conducted by Zubin Mehta.

The musical spectrum includes recordings of legendary artists such as Frank Sinatra, Eric Clapton, Chick Corea, Omara Portuondo, Tony Bennett and even Lady Gaga. Pop concerts will also be shown on the big screen, with gigs by Elton John, Pink Floyd, Queen, Bob Marley, Depeche Mode, Zucchero and Elvis Presley – who would have turned 80 this year – among the highlights. The catering on offer is as diverse as the music, with an impressively wide selection of international food and drink to choose from.
