Colorful tiles on the roof of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna

Sabine Haag: My Vienna

My favorite place: the square around St. Ulrich's Church, just a stone's throw from the Spittelberg area and some of the 7th District's best restaurants. Or maybe a walk through Steinhofgründe park, paying a visit to Steinhof Church, an art nouveau gem.

My tips for art and culture: Vienna Festival, opera at Theater an der Wien and the ImPulsTanz dance festival.

My eating and drinking tips: the Vestibül restaurant in the Burgtheater for business events and formal gatherings, relaxing in Café Markusplatz, popping into Hans Staud for some of their tasty, world-famous preserves and gherkins on a trip to Yppenmarkt. The city center Loos American Bar is a one of a kind and a great place to finish off an evening out.

My shopping tips: Wittman Schauraum furniture store in the Akademiehof building, Dorotheum auction house, Lobmeyr glassware, and the wonderful creations of Mühlbauer hats.

What no visitor should miss: the steep climb up the South Tower of St. Stephen's Cathedral's, affectionately known as "Steffl" by the Viennese, is a favorite with tourists and definitely worth the effort.
