Vienna Media News 3/2013 Life Ball 2013

Visitors to the 2013 Life Ball will be whisked away to an enchanting world of poetry and fairytales, mythical beasts and genies, romantic verse and wise allegories. But there is a serious side to the evening's proceedings - the idea is for ballgoers to use their imagination to help people with AIDS and HIV. Each year this loud and outlandish event inside and outside City Hall generates much-needed funds for AIDS projects, while raising awareness of the condition amongst the general public. The 2012 event contributed EUR 2.1 million to AIDS projects in Austria and abroad.

Weird and wonderful costumes have a long tradition at the Life Ball, giving the event a truly unique flavor. And the latest theme of '1001 Arabian Nights' is certain to bring lashings of oriental opulence, with everyone from Scheherazade to Ali Baba set to put in an appearance. The Life Ball Style Bible, which is published months ahead of the big night, gives ball visitors valuable fashion pointers, helping them to create an unforgettable look. Every year thousands of visitors flock to Rathausplatz to enjoy the spectacular two-hour opening show where they - and representatives of the world's media - are treated to a free fashion show featuring top creations by leading international designers. Holders of a Life Ball ticket will then be invited to step inside City Hall where one of the capital's wildest party nights awaits! Guests will be able to flit from room to room and courtyard to courtyard, enjoying an uninterrupted line-up of live acts, stunning shows and culinary delights all the way until 5am.
