Colorful tiles on the roof of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna

Vienna Media News 06/2012 Wiener Wiesn – Vienna’s answer to the Oktoberfest

Following its successful premiere last year, Wiener Wiesn will be back again in fall 2012 with three giant marquees on the Kaiserwiese meadow, directly in front of the Giant Ferris Wheel in the Prater park. In addition to the traditional beer tents, which can accommodate up to 2,500 guests, this year's event will feature an authentic Alpine hut made of Swiss Pine. The event will have a strong Austrian flavor, with Wiener Schnitzel, sausage, roast pork and crispy pork knuckle on the menu. The beer comes from Austria, and the wine is from Viennese producers.

Each day will bring live musical entertainment in the different marquees - the 11-day program includes a total of 99 concerts! The packed line-up of Austrian and international acts such as Jürgen Drews, Marc Pircher, die Ursprung Buam and Die Edlseer will serve up a heady blend of Schlager pop and traditional volksmusik. Admission to the four marquees is only permitted with a valid table reservation, and access to the Wiener Wiesen festival site is free of charge.
