From summer 2012 Atelier Augarten is hosting Francesca Habsburg's art foundation TBA21 (Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary 21) as part of a long-term collaborative project with the Belvedere. The new exhibition area will create a space for art, creativity and design, with a view to driving dialog with visitors. The workshop in the Augarten, a Baroque-era park in the second district, was originally used as a studio, workshop and residence by sculptor Gustinus Ambrosi in the 1950s. The sculptor's former atelier has been given a new lease on life as a venue for contemporary art exhibitions. English artist Simon Starling has joined forces with Danish artists' collective Superflex to stage a new show at Augarten Atelier called Reprototypes, Triangulations and Road Tests. Starling's show will be hosted in conjunction with a presentation of selected works from the TBA21 collection.
A new exhibition space for contemporary photography opened to the public on June 4, 2012. Located on the site of the former Anker bakery in Vienna's 10th district, the 400-square-meter Galerie OstLicht will put group and individual contemporary photography shows in the frame. OstLicht will also have a special focus on collaborative projects between up-and-coming and long-established artists. Inaugural show Nacht features a group of works which explore the various themes and peculiarities associated with the time between dusk and dawn.
