Thousands of professional dancers, choreographers, teachers and students will converge on the Austrian capital for Europe's largest contemporary dance festival. During its month-long slot, ImPulsTanz will feature some 40 international productions at a range of venues including the MuseumsQuartier, the Schauspielhaus and the Burgtheater. This year's star guest is Belgian dance icon Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker who will present a new interpretation of Drumming with her dance company. Incidentally, this piece celebrated its world premiere at ImPulsTanz back in 1998.
This year's festival sees the Austrian contemporary dance scene take center stage. ImPulsTanz 2012 will also host the Choreographic Platform Austria, an organization which is committed to taking established and up-and-coming artists and companies to an international public. In addition to shows and performances, this five-week celebration will feature a series of 200 workshops to give participants of all abilities first-hand experience of different contemporary dance genres.
