Ban on facial coverings in Austria

A law banning facial coverings came into effect in Austria on October 1, 2017. Visitors to the country are also expected to comply with the new legislation.

The ban on people covering their faces applies to everyone in the country. Tourists in public places and public buildings in Vienna have been prohibited from hiding or concealing their facial features with clothes or other objects since October 1, 2017. Please refer to the brochure issued by the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior for further information.
