Vienna Media News 11/2011 New hotels for Vienna

2012 will bring a host of attractive new accommodations for the Austrian capital. The first major addition to the hotel portfolio is scheduled to open its doors in November 2011.

From November 1 2011 Hotel Daniel Wien will employ a "smart luxury" concept to attract its share of overnight visitors to the city. Contemporary hospitality and pared-down design are the watchwords at this new 115-room establishment complete with lobby and its own bakery. Travelers have four room categories to choose from in this heritage-listed 1960s building. The Upper Belvedere, the new 21er Haus in the Schweizergarten park and Vienna's new main station (under construction) are all just a short distance away.

A pair of small designer hotels are set to open for business in the first district in February and April 2012. The as yet unnamed accommodations have the same contractor and are located only a very short distance from each other. The 32-room hotel at Lichtensteg 3 is a new build designed by BWM Architekten to function as an elegant oasis of calm in the heart of the city. Architects BEHF are currently converting a building at Rotenturmstrasse 15 for hotel use. Once complete, it will have 22 rooms, 10 suites and a rooftop terrace with views of St. Stephen's Cathedral.

The 25 Hours Hotel in the seventh district will be adding even more beds in fall 2012, when the existing top floor suites in this student dorm are joined by a further 187 rooms. The building will be remodeled to accommodate a new restaurant and function rooms. Still in the seventh district, a new five-star hotel will open its doors to guests for the first time in late 2012. The Hotel Sans Souci adds 160 beds in 80 suites, plus a restaurant and gym to Vienna's hotel stock.

Palais Hansen Kempinski Vienna is due to open its doors in spring 2013. This luxury hotel - located in a former mansion house on Schottenring - offers 150 rooms and suites, generously proportioned seminar rooms, two restaurants and a spa zone. 2013 will see yet more new international luxury hotels open in premium first-district locations. Four Seasons is adapting a former courthouse in Riemergasse, while Park Hyatt is converting a former bank building on the prestigious Am Hof square into a five-star hotel.
