Bahnhof City Wien West
Westbahnhof is the terminus for the majority of Vienna-bound rail services from Western Europe and the west of Austria. It is one of Austria's busiest transport hubs and the start and terminus of the main Westbahn route (the mainline towards Salzburg and beyond). The station complex has been rebuilt from the ground up - without any interruption to service - as part of a major project that was launched in September 2008. In November 2011 the new site will reopen as BahnhofCity Wien West.
The1950s station concourse building has been completely upgraded and is now flanked by a pair of multi-storey buildings which will house Motel One, a new low-budget design hotel. BahnhofCity Wien West incorporates state-of-the-art facilities for rail travelers on three floors, as well as a 17,000 square meter shopping center complete with food court. The Westbahnhof revamp is part of the ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways) modernization drive, which will culminate with the inauguration of Vienna's new main Hauptbahnhof station in 2014. Built on the site of the now defunct Südbahnhof, this new station is set to be one of the most advanced in Europe.
