Albertina Passage

A new restaurant is set to open its doors to diners in a converted former pedestrian underpass near the State Opera House. The Albertina Passage is organized as a dinner club, comprising a gourmet restaurant, bar and stage for live concerts. Closed to the public in 2009 after the discovery of structural defects, this pedestrian subway - one of many built beneath Vienna's showpiece boulevard in the 1960s - will return to the fold as a newly refurbished 300-seat location. The operator of the new dinner club has run the popular nightspot Club Passage in another underpass beneath the Ringstrasse since 2003.

Viennese architects ARTEC and BEHF have given one of Vienna's most popular club venues a new lease on life. The extensive bar and winter garden at the Volksgarten Clubdiskothek in the Volksgarten park have been fitted out with original 1950s furnishings and a newly planted palm forest. A new club by the name of Säulenhalle has taken up residence in an extension next to the main club building to give alternative Viennese bands an audience.
